About Dawn M. Jolie
Dawn M. Jolie was born in Des Plaines, Illinois and moved to Savannah, GA in 1986 with her family. She earned her BSNfrom Armstrong Atlantic State University there in 2000. From 2000 to 2008 she worked in OB/GYN, her last position being High Risk Perinatal, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. In 2009 she moved into Psychiatry at Georgia Regional Hospital Savannah, a state hospital. There she cared for long term care psychiatric patients; schizophrenia, bipolar, personality disorders, as long as there weren't serious medical conditions as they were not a medical hospital. Ages ranged from 18+. In 2014, Dawn moved to Boston and was married. She started working at CHA Everett in the Geriatric Psychiatric-Medical Unit, ages 55-106, so far. Dawn is a strong advocate for the elderly, the dementia patients especially. "Nursing is not just passing medications and charting," It is caring for the forgotten ones, the ones who have forgotten. It's all about dignity and respect, making the patient feel loved when they are having a hard time remembering their selves and their families. They can't remember what used to make them happy but they love "BINGO!" Just finding a little time to sit and talk to them can make their day! Dawn is currently attending Walden University for her Masters degree in Nursing specializing in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She strives for autonomy and improving the quality of patients' lives, communities and healthcare institutions by incorporating social change into her future practice.
